site is maintained by supporters of the United States Border
Patrol and is not an official government site. The contents
of this site are privately managed and not subject to the
direction of the United States Border Patrol.
The Resident Alien Card, form I-551, was introduced
in January 1977 and was phased in over a period of time. In addition
to the photograph, the I-551 contains the bearer's signature and
fingerprint.
